Hidden Dreidel Cake

The first night of Chanukah is here! Ahh the most beautiful holiday – the whole family, gathering around the candlelight, singing the Brachot and holiday songs. Picture perfect!

For the next 8 nights I’ll be hosting #8nights8Bites right here on the blog! Every, night, for the whole Chanukah I’ll be posting a new recipe and ideas for Chanukah! The recipes are EASY, QUICK, and super fun for everyone! Keep checking back here every night and share your creations with us on FB or Instagram with the hashtag #8nights8bites – can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Tonight’s recipe is one of my favorites! Not only does it taste good but it looks so cool! The dreidel, one of Chanukahs most popular symbols is featured in this cake. Basically, what we’re going to do, is hide a dreidel (not a real one, don’t worry!) inside the cake!

You’ll need two disposable loaf pans in the same size. Using a disposable pan is actually critical here, and I prefer the paper ones. When the cake is done it’s easiest to tear the sides off the cake for the smoothest edges.

I prepared 2 cake batters, a chocolate and a yellow, you can use your favorite go to recipes, you don’t have to use mine, the trick will still work!

So first, I baked the chocolate cake in the first disposable loaf pan. Once it totally cooled I sliced it into ½ inch slices. Using a small dreidel cookie-cutter I cut a dreidel shape out of each slice of cake. One at a time I lined up the dreidel slices into the second loaf pan.

Then, I poured the yellow cake batter over the dreidel “loaf” filling all the empty space in the pan. This whole thing goes back into the oven until the yellow cake is baked.

This cake is such a nice dessert to bring to a Chanukah get together or to serve to family when they come over for candle lighting. It’s impressive looking, but simple and delicious tasting. Classic combo of chocolate and yellow cake.

Everyone will want to know – how do you get the dreidel inside the cake??
